Ruddy Turnstones

Original (9 x 12) - $850.00
Ruddy turnstones are members of the large worldwide group of sandpipers and plovers. They may
be found in the intertidal zone close to the seashore on all the coastlines of the United States. They
feed by searching in the nooks and crannies of the seaweed and rocky tidal shores of their marine
environment for small invertebrate animals. Their striking pattern of rufous, black, and white is
distinctive in these swift flying seabirds.
In this painting I wanted to show off the striking pattern of these beautiful seabirds. The birds are
basking in the early morning sunlight before embarking on their day of food gathering along the
coastal areas of some location in the Pacific states. The soft pink light and long shadows enhance
the mood of the scene as they rest briefly on a favorite rock.
