Before the Hunt - Lioness
Ronald W. Schlorff©
Original (16 x 24) - $1850.00
The lioness is the quintessential predator of the African savannah. Whether hunting alone or as a cooperative team member with other pride females with whom she is often closely related this great cat is a formidable killing machine. She is also a devoted mother and spends considerable hours during the day caring for and playing with her cubs, when all are not asleep.
In this painting we see a lone lioness preparing to leave the tall grass that served as a day-long resting place. Perhaps she is alone but the extent of the matted grassy area indicates that she had company, other pride members. They have only just recently departed to assess the prospects for initiating a hunt at a nearby herd of zebras or wildebeest. The lone lioness will have to hurry to catch up if she is to participate in the hunt.
