The Dall's sheep is a member of the great mountain sheep tribe of North America which includes
representatives from the arid deserts to the high alpine regions of the continent. The Dall's is the
only all white mountain sheep in America; all others being shades of brown.
In this painting I've shown an old "patriarch" resting briefly from the rigors of the mating season.
He is a veteran of many contests with rival rams as shown by the worn and broken horn-tips. The
rocky background is muted and darkened to accent the brilliant white of the ram's coat. This fine
specimen, a resident of the magnificent Denali National Park in Alaska, has no doubt perpetuated
his genetic lineage through many offspring over the years.
